Master's Programme "Advanced Theological Studies" -  Degree Programme Code A066 795

Specialization in Liturgical Studies and Sacramental Theology

The master's programme in Advanced Theological Studies with a focus on liturgical studies is aimed at anyone interested in liturgical studies and sacramental theology. It corresponds to a canonical licentiate in liturgical studies (and sacramental theology).

Since sacramental theology is taught together with liturgical studies at the Catholic Theology Faculty of the University of Vienna, the master's programme in Advanced Theological Studies offers a specialization in both fields. In terms of content, the study thus extends from sacramentals and sacraments with special consideration of  the celebration of the Eucharist, as well as its own special lectures on the celebration of initiation, anointing of the sick, marriage, and ordination. It covers the basics of liturgical studies, as well as the Liturgy of the Hours and the heortology (liturgical year and calendar of the saints). Current topics of liturgical studies and sacramental theology are discussed in the regularly offered research seminars. In addition to Christian worship, the exploration of liturgical signs and symbols, rites and rituals takes place in a separate seminar. It is also possible to study abroad for a few semesters (possibly in the context of the ERASMUS programme) at appropriate institutions (e.g. Sant'Anselmo in Rome).
